Update on Tornado Outbreak in the South

Region VI is gathering information to learn how we can support those in Louisiana affected by the tornado outbreak.

As a severe storm system makes its way across the eastern half of the country, Region VI is gathering information and working with local emergency management agencies and partnering organizations in Louisiana to learn if they can assist residents affected by last night’s tornado outbreak.

The Louisiana State VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) has requested our help in managing a Volunteer Resource Center and support debris management in the community of LaPlace, where more than 300 properties sustained damage from the storm.

We have not yet launched an operation but are identifying a reconnaissance team to survey the extent of the damage and learn how our team can best support the relief efforts. Members in the area are encouraged to get deployment-ready and stay tuned for further instruction.
