Recon Teams Assess Tornado Damage in Tennessee

Julie H. Case

Volunteers have deployed to evaluate impact of twisters and assess unmet need.

Team Rubicon has deployed multiple recon teams to Cheatham, Sumner, Montgomery, and Davidson counties, including Nashville, TN, in response to the severe storms and tornadoes that touched down on Saturday, December 9. Once the teams have assessed both damage on the ground and unmet need, the veteran-led disaster response nonprofit will determine where, and how, its volunteers might best used to assist residents and communities impacted by the tornadoes.

Response operations are already in preplanning which could include chainsaw operations, roof tarping, route clearance for first responders, and debris removal from homes for residents.

The tornadoes touched down two years nearly to the day after December 2021’s shocking off-season tornadoes which swept through eight Midwest states and hit nearby Mayfield and Dawson Springs, KY, especially hard.
