Team Rubicon is a multi-faceted organization with a dual mission of helping communities affected by disasters and veterans looking for another chance to serve, so it’s no surprise there are truck loads of moving parts that keep this engine running. We broke it down into four, easy-to-digest categories:
Tools
We’re talkin’ chainsaws, skid-steers, gloves, shovels, safety glasses, etc. We are as effective as our equipment, which is why it’s important we use it efficiently. Different operations require different tools. These tools are stored in regional gear caches and deployed to the area of operation as needed via regional TR trailer. This is a huge asset for the communities we serve, and thanks to partners like the Home Depot Foundation and ToolBank USA, we show up ready to rock with tools in hand.
Tech
Our mission is to bridge the gap for communities in crises. One of the ways we accomplish this is through innovative, flexible technologies like Palantir Technologies. Palantir is a game-changer in the world of disaster response. With an easy-to-use app loaded onto mobile devices, our assessment teams can affect real-time change to benefit the communities.
Back at the FOB, the command staff monitors the data, dispatches teams to complete work orders, and can pass that information along to partnering organizations once our team leaves the site. That data can also help communities seeking federal reimbursement in the wake of a disaster. It doesn’t end with Palantir. We’re also utilizing services such as Everbridge, Salamander, Cornerstone OnDemand, and Motorola Solutions to respond to disasters across the world.
Training
Tools are useless if they’re rusty. Same goes for our skills. We’ve got dozens of training opportunities nationwide to keep our teams up to snuff. We’re standardizing training across the country, using FEMA’s ICS system, which is free and available for all our members online. You can also join us for chainsaw training, tabletop exercises, workouts with Team RWB, and more.
We also now offer ASIST, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, which helps our members respond to peers in crises. Check with your regional training and programs teams for more details on how you can plug in.
Time
Easily the most important “T.” None of what we do is possible without your time. The time you take to read this, to share it with friends who’ve been wondering why you rep TR so hard. The time you invest in getting trained to be a lean, mean, disaster-responding machine. The time we give to homeowners in distress. The time our leaders take to ensure we can continue to serve and grow. Time is what makes TR work.
