Team Rubicon is a veteran-led humanitarian organization that serves global communities before, during, and after disasters and crises.

Through collaboration with local and state agencies, Team Rubicon engages a nationwide network of volunteers within their own communities–prepared to respond at a moment’s notice.

Team Rubicon supports policy initiatives that advance our humanitarian mission, support our veteran-led Greyshirts and impact those we serve. Policy areas of focus include humanitarian relief, climate change, veterans, and non-profit sector.

As populations continue to grow, and resources around the globe continue to be tapped, there is an increasing need for humanitarian aid and assistance.

To drive equity across disaster and humanitarian services, Team Rubicon focuses on three areas of impact:

  • Disaster Response
  • Rebuild
  • International

Disaster Response

Team Rubicon serves communities throughout the entire disaster life cycle—from mitigation to immediate response to recovery—on our mission to invest in and build community resiliency. By focusing on the individual homeowners first, Team Rubicon ensures the overall community can recover faster.

Families need assistance before, during, and after disaster, and Team Rubicon supports policies that ensure:

  • Equitable, expedited, and simplified access to assistance for families impacted by disasters.
  • Increased investment in mitigation, preparation, and resilience efforts.
  • Mental health resources regardless of the size or type of emergency.

Rebuild

Disasters don’t end when debris is removed from roadways and bridges are repaired. Families and individuals in critical circumstances risk becoming displaced, ultimately eroding the fabric of their communities. Our Rebuild Services work to provide safe and stable homes, utilizing resilient building methods wherever possible.

  • We will continue to advocate for policies that support equitable housing recovery following disasters.
  • Team Rubicon will continue to leverage and utilize resilient building materials and methods and will promote and support policy that leverages these practices and methods.

International

Team Rubicon is committed to serving people in times of emergency regardless of where they are located. To this end, we are scaling our service internationally and that requires building a network of local support across the world, so we can respond when and where disaster and crisis strike.

  • The world is more interconnected than ever. We support robust federal funding for international development and humanitarian aid / disaster response programs.
  • Our international team supports humanitarian efforts, specifically through medical services and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene). We support policies that ensure access and funding to ensure rapid medical care and clean water in crises.

The climate crisis is a humanitarian crisis. The United Nations has stated that climate change is a top driver of humanitarian need and human suffering. The impacts of climate change threaten to deepen already existing inequalities.

Team Rubicon is a member of InterAction and has signed onto the NGO Climate Compact, which will contribute to meeting higher-level global goals, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the U.N. Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Further, Team Rubicon is committed to continuing to serve populations impacted by climate change both domestically and internationally.

  • The climate crisis is directly affecting the work of humanitarian organizations across the country and around the world. Team Rubicon will continue to support policy that addresses mitigation, adaptation and resilience strategies to support communities.
  • Team Rubicon remains committed to addressing our own impact on the environment and implement practices to limit those impacts.

Team Rubicon mobilizes veterans to continue their service, leveraging their skills and experience alongside first responders and civilian volunteers to help people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises. Their unique skills, experience, and passion for serving others make them America’s greatest national resource.

Team Rubicon looks to help veterans transition from military to civilian life and maintain well-being thorough continued service. A Pew Research Center study, 26% of veteran respondents found shifting to civilian life to be very difficult or somewhat difficult; that percentage jumped to 48% for veterans who served after 9/11.

Through continued service, Team Rubicon seeks to provide our veterans with three things they lose after leaving the military: a purpose, gained through disaster relief; community, built by serving with others; and identity, from recognizing the impact one individual can make. Through opportunities like our Clay Hunt Fellowship, Team Rubicon offers leadership development and other opportunities.

Team Rubicon supports policies that:

  • Streamline and recognize military skills following transition to civilian life
  • Promote opportunities that enable veterans to continue to serve
  • Ensure access to Mental Health resources for the veteran population
  • Recognize veteran service

Service is the driving principle of Team Rubicon Operations, our staff, and Greyshirts. Across the United States, the charitable sector generates incredible impact for both communities and economies.

Team Rubicon aspires to be the most effective and transparent nonprofit organization that continues to delivery its mission to serve communities.

  • Preservation and expansion of policies that support and encourage charitable giving

  • Supporting tax and other incentives at all levels of government that encourage individuals to volunteer their time and contribute money to the missions of charitable nonprofits. This includes supporting universal or non-itemizer charitable deductions.

  • Creation and expansion of policies that encourage volunteerism.

  • Supporting national and local policy that allows and/or grants paid time volunteering time off (or VTO).
