From the Producers of This Old House, Team Rubicon Will Feature Host Kevin O’Connor Following Volunteers and Survivors in Disaster Zones, Exclusively on The Roku Channel.
SAN JOSE, Calif., MAY. 15, 2023 — Roku, lnc. announced today an original new series from the producers of This Old House, the most trusted brand in home improvement, called Team Rubicon, based on the veteran-led humanitarian organization by the same name that serves global communities before, during, and after disasters and crises. This Old House’s Kevin O’Connor hosts this new series that sheds light on the wonderful work of this organization, streaming free on Thursday, May 25 on The Roku Channel. When disaster strikes, Team Rubicon responds. In this heartwarming series, we’ll follow Team Rubicon volunteers —military veterans, first responders and dauntless everyday people —as they step up to serve communities in moments of need. Whether a hurricane, wildfire mitigation or flood, Team Rubicon is dedicated to long-term relief.
Not just the host, Kevin O’Connor is also a volunteer for Team Rubicon and deploys with Team Rubicon’s CEO, Art delaCruz, as well as the volunteers known as “Greyshirts,” as they witness firsthand the strength of the human spirit and the power of community in times of unimaginable stress and heartache. The 13-episode half-hour series will follow the “Greyshirts” and survivors as they descend upon disaster zones. Team Rubicon gives second chances to veterans to give back and heal. While over half of the organization comes from military backgrounds, many non-military volunteers come from all walks of life. This inspirational series truly shows what resilience is all about.
“Team Rubicon has provided exceptional aid to millions of people since 2010 following the Haiti earthquake. It is an honor for us to be able to showcase their work as they epitomize hard work and resilience,” said David Eilenberg, head of content, Roku Media. “This organization and these volunteers and survivors show the best parts of humanity, and we look forward to spotlighting their incredible stories on The Roku Channel.”
“The series gives not only a look at the life of a Greyshirt in the field by sharing their incredible stories and the impact they have in the communities they serve,” said Art delaCruz, CEO of Team Rubicon. “It also shares how their services promote resilience and recovery as the frequency and intensity of disasters increase. We thank Roku for joining our ranks and so genuinely sharing these stories and encourage everyone to join us and help before, during and after disasters.”
