It’s been a week since Hurricane Florence made landfall in Wilmington, NC. Since then, over 1,500 Greyshirts have raised their hands and answered the call to serve affected residents. While the floodwaters are receding in many areas, there are multiple rivers that have yet to crest. Our planning teams are monitoring rivers and road conditions in order to keep our field teams safe while identifying areas in the greatest need of assistance.

Just over 1 in 10 homes have flood insurance in the counties hit by Florence. The math is simple, and the result is ugly: many people affected by the storm are going to have to pay for repairs to their damaged homes out of their own pockets. Team Rubicon is stepping in to help ease this burden and get these communities on the road to recovery and rebuilding.
Team Rubicon has launched three response operations in North Carolina, specifically in Wilmington, New Bern, and Goldsboro. Volunteers will begin conducting damage assessments, debris removal, muck-out services, chainsaw operations, and expedient home repairs. By September 22, 100 Greyshirts will be on the ground working to provide disaster relief to North Carolinians.

These teams are receiving direct support from our National Operations Center in Dallas, TX and our Logistical Support Area currently based out of Charlotte, NC. As teams on the ground have needs, these two support stations will be prepared to respond and supply the proper resources. This is only just the beginning of Team Rubicon’s response.
