Team Rubicon has launched Texas flood recovery operations in Kerrville, Sonora, and Uvalde following the catastrophic flooding that swept across Central, West, and Southwest Texas in mid-July. The veteran-led disaster relief nonprofit is sending trained volunteers, known as Greyshirts, into hard-hit communities to help homeowners begin the long recovery process.
Beginning July 12, a powerful storm system brought torrential rain, flash flooding, and tornadoes to 13 counties across the region. The flooding triggered multiple flash flood emergencies, forcing evacuations and water rescues along the Guadalupe River and in communities across West and Southwest Texas. The disaster came just one year after the catastrophic Guadalupe River flooding that claimed more than 100 lives and left lasting scars across the Texas Hill Country.
Team Rubicon’s disaster relief volunteers, known as Greyshirts, are now supporting recovery efforts in Kerrville, Sonora, and Uvalde.
Greyshirts Return to Kerrville
On July 21, Team Rubicon began Texas flood recovery operations in Kerrville. As many as 30 Greyshirts are expected to deploy on the operation, helping residents take the first step toward recovery by performing muck-outs of flood-damaged homes, chainsaw work to remove hazardous trees, and removal of general flood debris. The operation is expected to continue through August 4.
Several Greyshirts were already in the area preparing for a Long-Term Recovery program—in response to the 2025 flooding—when the most recent floods hit.
Muck-Outs Begin in Sonora
Team Rubicon has also established a flooding operation in Sonora after powerful thunderstorms brought torrential rainfall that flooded San Felipe Creek and overwhelmed low-water crossings throughout the area. Beginning on July 22, up to 30 Greyshirts will deploy to Sonora to conduct muck-outs of flood-damaged homes and remove flood debris across the community so that residents can safely begin recovery. The operation is expected to continue into early August.
Greyshirts Take on Floods in Uvalde
Beginning July 23, Greyshirts will also deploy to Uvalde, Texas, for flood recovery operations. As many as 30 Greyshirts are expected to serve on the op, mucking out flooded homes and conducting chainsaw and general debris removal work to clear vegetative and flood debris. The operation is expected to last until August 8.
The July 2026 Texas flood recovery operations come roughly one year after the first of Team Rubicon’s four responses to the July 2025 Texas floods. Last year, Greyshirts Greyshirts logged nearly 11,900 hours of service and assisted 928 people across nine communities in response to the 2025 floods. Earlier this summer, the veteran-led nonprofit completed a service project in Kerr County and conducted demolition work in San Saba County, clearing the way for a partner nonprofit to begin rebuilding. Team Rubicon’s own Long-Term Recovery program has also begun rebuilding a home in Kerrville.
