Resilient Carpentry and Roofing | New Orleans

Nine weeks of hands-on training in carpentry and roofing. Learn on real training structures using resilient installation techniques. Built with employers, focused on safety, and rooted in what carpenters actually need. You’ll graduate job-ready with direct connections to local employers hiring now.

  • Location: New Orleans, LA
  • Duration: 9 weeks, full-time

Resilient Power Systems | New Orleans

Build the skills to launch a career in the electrical trades. Learn to read and interpret electrical drawings, measure and bend conduit, install wiring and electrical devices, assemble circuits, use electrical meters and testing equipment, and troubleshoot common electrical problems. 

Go beyond traditional electrical training by learning techniques that help protect home electrical systems from severe weather and gaining hands-on experience with residential backup power systems that can provide essential electricity during outages. 

Graduate with practical skills, a foundation for entry-level employment in the electrical trades, and connections to potential employers.

  • Learn: Electrical safety, wiring, circuits, conduit, panels, troubleshooting, and backup power systems

What to Expect

Participants can expect a hands-on, small group training experience focused on building real-world construction skills, professional habits, and job readiness. Training combines classroom instruction with practical, shop-based learning and emphasizes safety, industry standards, and teamwork. Students will also participate in career fairs, employer engagement activities, and individual employment support, including job search assistance and interview preparation. Participants should be prepared for a structured schedule, high expectations, accountability, and active participation, with support from instructors, staff, and peers throughout the program.

2. Initial phone screening
After you apply, a representative from Team Rubicon will contact you to complete an initial phone screening.

3. In-person interview
Qualified applicants will be invited to an in-person interview at the academy: 2506 Williams Blvd, Kenner, LA 70062.

4. Selection and cohort placement
Selected candidates will be notified of acceptance and assigned to an upcoming training cohort. If needed, applicants may request consideration for a later cohort based on availability and program capacity.

  • Resilient Construction is what our communities need as disasters increase and rebuilding costs increase – these methods allow us to build stronger structures, better ready to withstand high winds. From roof deck fastening to wind-resistant detailing and moisture control practices, we train to the FORTIFIED™ standard, ensuring homes the greatest protection against severe weather.

  • Resilient Power focuses on helping homes maintain access to essential electricity during power outages and recover more effectively after severe weather. Students learn residential electrical installation techniques that improve durability and weather resistance, along with the fundamentals of backup power systems that can provide temporary electricity when utility service is interrupted. These skills support safer, more resilient homes and prepare students for careers in the electrical trades.

  • 80% of the program is hands-on in the shop. 20% is in the classroom.

    Students will work individually and in groups to complete a series of projects.

    Through these projects students will be introduced to all the steps needed to build a model tiny home.

    Skills include taking accurate measurements, using hand and power tools effectively, framing, roofing, siding and drywall.

    By the end of the course, you will be able to do things like: Frame a wall, install a new window, locate studs to hang something heavy, patch a hole in your drywall, build your own deck furniture, put a new roof on a shed, operate a miter saw comfortably.

  • 80% of the program is hands-on in the shop. 20% is in the classroom.

    Students will work individually and in groups to complete a series of projects.

    Through these projects students will be introduced to all the steps needed to wire a model tiny home.

    Skills include measuring and metering, assembly and installation of electrical devices, reading and interpreting electrical drawings.

    By the end of the course, you will be able to do things like: Install a new electrical outlet in an existing wall, install a new ceiling fan, wire up a 3-way switch, explain what a 3-way switch does, install a simple back up power system to a shed.
