Team Rubicon Signs Agreement with Guatemala Disaster Management Agency to Strengthen Partnership

International humanitarian organization, Team Rubicon, has signed an agreement with Guatemala’s national disaster management agency to increase collaboration and support during emergencies.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Dec. 14, 2023) Team Rubicon (TR) announced in December the signing a of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Guatemala’s disaster management agency, Coordinador Nacional para la Reducción de Desastres (CONRED).  

This established partnership will allow the two organizations to better collaborate, communicate, and support one another in the event of an emergency. In addition, TR looks forward to participating in capacity building and knowledge exchange exercises to prepare Guatemala for future events. 

“The signing of this memorandum of understanding between SE-CONRED and Team Rubicon is important to strengthen the capabilities of the CONRED System, it will support the plans and protocols to increase humanitarian response measures for the population most in need, due to the damage caused by emergencies and disasters is definitely an important step in comprehensive risk management,” Oscar Estuardo Cossio Cámara Executive Secretary for CONRED. 

As Team Rubicon continually strives to localize disaster response, this MOU is a first step towards a lasting partnership that will support building the resilience and capacity of communities and promote effective and efficient services post-disaster. 

“The MOU between CONRED and Team Rubicon signifies collaboration and strength, uniting expertise and resources to bolster disaster risk reduction, response, and recovery and embodying a shared commitment to serve communities in their most vulnerable moments,” said Zachary Brooks-Miller, Sr. Director of International Programs for Team Rubicon. 

This agreement comes at the heels of a similar MOU penned between Team Rubicon and the United States Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA).  

Team Rubicon continues to build partnerships across the globe to further our mission to assist communities before, during, and after disasters and crises. 

Since the organization’s founding in 2010, in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Team Rubicon has served communities in all 50 U.S. states and over 30 countries worldwide.  

In 2023 alone, Team Rubicon assisted over 28,000 people across the globe.  

In Central and South America, Team Rubicon has provided services in several countries, including, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Columbia, and Guyana.  

Furthermore, Team Rubicon has assisted communities in Europe and Africa, providing emergency medical services in Ukraine after the Russian invasion, and in Malawi after Cyclone Freddy.
