Update from Flint

Jim Simmons

Army veteran Jim Simmons serves as the Michigan State Administrator for Team Rubicon. He worked at the American Legion Department of Michigan for more than 25 years before joining TR, where he's deployed on multiple operations and served as incident commander.

Today could be considered a typical day in the response effort of Operation: Factory One – it was an excellent day. The teams are working extremely well together and were rewarded with the personal interactions with Flint residents. The work we’re tackling is not sophisticated, but it is very much needed and appreciated.

Five strike teams were deployed to separate zones in centrals areas of Flint to deliver water, filter kits, and water testing kits to vulnerable populations. We continue to interact with the Emergency Operations Center and partnering NGOs supporting the efforts. Approximately 120 spontaneous volunteers were in the area of operation yesterday to support the community of Flint. Some numbers from our teams:

  • 13 TR personnel on site
  • Work orders completed: 142
  • Cases of water delivered: 191
  • Filters delivered: 97
  • Test kits delivered: 27
  • Filter installations: 9

We’ll continue to support the response to the water contamination emergency until our help is no longer needed.
