In Memory of Dan Murphy of Rockaway, NY

James Wilson

James served for six years in the U.S. Air Force as a Battlefield Weather Forecaster with the U.S Army. He continues to promote the importance of joint forces and teamwork—in every sense of the word. James currently serves as a development intern with Team Rubicon from his humble abode in Portland, OR where he pursues his passion for helping and supporting others.

We love getting feedback from our donors almost as much as we love tossing a sledgehammer around to help others. So when we heard from Ann Murphy from Rockaway, New York, who received help from Team Rubicon volunteers after Superstorm Sandy flooded her home in 2012, we felt compelled to share.

Ann’s late husband Dan served in the Army from 1966-1969 and continued to serve as a NYC Police Officer. Over a quick email exchange, Ann wrote, “The real testimony would have been from Dan; as he worked side-by-side with these fine men and women while they helped Dan break up our basement floors and haul the debris. We had never heard of Team Rubicon until Sandy hit. Dan could not have done this alone. Living through this disaster was a very humbling experience. We were very grateful that our home was still standing, and that we had a roof over our head.”

Team Rubicon deployed over 350 members who led thousands of local volunteers in the effort to clean up after Superstorm Sandy.

This Christmas, Ann received a card from her friend Grace Dipippa—a contribution to Team Rubicon in Dan’s name. Ann said, “This brought a tear to my eye, and a smile in my heart.”

Thank you Ann, from everyone at Team Rubicon who continue to serve in honor of Dan.
