7.0 magnitude strikes near Japan
A 7.0 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE HAS STRUCK NEAR JAPAN. BEACH EVACUATIONS HAVE BEEN ORDERED.

(CNN) — A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Japan’s Ryukyu Islands early Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
Soon after the 5:31 a.m. (3:31 p.m. Friday ET) quake, Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory, recommending that people on the Okinawa Islands evacuate from the seashore. The advisory also affected the Amami Islands and Tokara Islands.
The quake was centered about 6 miles (10 km) deep, about 53 miles (85 km) from Okinawa.

Some dmg reported in Santiago (200 miles from the epicenter). Buildings damaged, power out.
Epicenter is 70 miles from Concepcion, Chile’s second largest city. Estimated pop 200k.
“Sea level readings indicate a tsunami was generated. It may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicenter and could also be a threat to more distant coasts,” the center said.

Per CNN interview with earthquake center guy- 15 ft waves are expected to hit Hawaii..the bays will be hit harder than the ocean sides.

Civil Defense plans to fire up the sirens at 6 AM to begin evacuations. Waves expected at 11 AM.
