A WINNING COMBINATION!
Athletic apparel giant Under Armour has decided to team up with Team Rubicon by supplying TR with nearly $10,000 worth of apparel to be utilized as uniforms, and an ongoing 40% discount on bulk purchases in the future. This is a major development for Team Rubicon, which prior to this had yet to secure a major corporate sponsor outside of the medical sector.
Under Armour is a global brand that is relatively new on the athletic scene. UA made a name for itself with its innovative moisture-wicking shirts (first designed by UA’s founder in 1996) and edgy marketing campaigns. In many ways UA and TR are similar- both organizations identified a problem, developed a solution, and took on the big players in their industry. UA has incredibly stolen market share from players such as Nike and Adidas while it has continued to innovate. Similarly, Team Rubicon has identified gaps in disaster response and developed a model that is forcing the big boys to pay attention.
Under Armour’s products are perfect for TR’s mission. The material allows the clothing to be worn for multiple days without allowing fungus and bacteria to grow on it. This is obviously ideal for Team Rubicon’s field environment, which often does not allow clothing to be changed or washed for several days at a time. Additionally, UA offers a full range of both warm weather and cold weather gear, which will allow TR to purchase items at a 40% discount as missions expand and fundraising continues.
