A note from an RN at Memorial Christian Hospital
February 14, 2011
Dear Team Rubicon,
It is difficult to put into words the emotions I am feeling due to being so overwhelmed by your kind gifts to Memorial Christian Hospital. Seeing the container pull into the compound was very exciting. To see the doors open and all the wonderful things for the hospital being pulled out brought me to tears.
Just this morning, we needed a 20 gauge IV for a surgical patient. The last one had been used just prior and so I used a 22 gauge needle. Not the end of the world but a compromise that I so commonly find in Africa. These kinds of shortages are unheard of in the United States. To have a team like yours come here and assist and to give from your hearts, as I have witnessed, is amazing.
It is a critical time in South Sudan right now. With all the equipment you have given not only to MCH, but also to clinics in Pebor and Fungok, we can serve the communities and the people who travel to our clinics with confidence and efficiency. The equipment helps us be a legitimate hospital and clinic. It allows the staff to offer up to the patients the treatments they need. Surgeries will have the correct equipment to assure a positive outcome. These things are happening because of your kindness and generosity.
I know that it is not easy to get a container here. I have knowledge about three other containers and understand the risk, the cost and the enormous amount of prayer that goes into getting one here to South Sudan. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
God’s Blessing,
Catherine Thomas, RN
