Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dunford Talks Leadership at #TRLC2016

Marie Cottone is a proud native of Scranton, PA (yes, she watches The Office) and graduated from the University of Notre Dame, where she studied marketing and international business. Prior to joining Team Rubicon, Marie worked for an ad agency in Chicago, gaining valuable experience in advertising and marketing project management. She is ready to change the world with her marketing prowess as a member of TR’s communications team. An avid fan of the Fighting Irish, she also enjoys exploring the beaches of California and playing with dogs.

Over 200 Greyshirts and supporters gathered in Dallas this weekend to train, collaborate, and motivate at Team Rubicon’s annual leadership conference. Who better to address our leaders than Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford, our nation’s highest ranked military officer, and principal military advisor to President Barack Obama.

General Dunford generously spent his time with Team Rubicon to kick off TRLC, speaking on leadership, taking questions, and even sticking around after the event to personally meet TR members and supporters.

“You have given a brand to veterans that I think is exactly the right brand,” said the General as he thanked the members of Team Rubicon for their commitment. “Continuing to serve is what a veteran is all about. I’m proud of you.”

General Dunford’s keynote speech included inspirational anecdotes littered with crowd-pleasing one-liners. He stressed the importance of the intangible aspects of leadership like trust, commitment, culture, and communication – his words echoing many of the same sentiments that CEO and cofounder Jake Wood expressed earlier in the evening as being vital to Team Rubicon’s growth and success.

“The most important thing to do as a leader with Team Rubicon, or anyplace else, is to take care of your people,” General Dunford said. “Your job is to create the environment in which everyone else can be successful.”

General Dunford’s message set the stage for our Greyshirts at TRLC 2016 and beyond, further motivating TR as we strive to be the best disaster response organization in the world.

Our members continue to work hard at #TRLC2016 and across the globe – currently monitoring Hurricane Matthew, responding to severe flooding in Wisconsin and Iowa, treating refugee patients in Greece, and working on the restoration of the Salton Sea.
