2011 Race Across America – Team Rubicon

The Race Across America (RAAM) is one of the most respected and longest running annual endurance events holding legendary stature the world over. It is one of the pinnacles of sporting accomplishment, globally seen as the highest rung of the endurance sports ladder. Since 1982, RAAM has a rich and storied history standing as a monument to human endeavors. RAAM is a 3,010-mile bike race, touching 14 states and climbing over 100,000 feet. Once called the Great American Bike Race, Race Across America has been held every year since 1982, beginning close to the summer solstice, and traveling west to east. RAAM is a single-stage, 24 hour/day, start-to-finish race unlike famous multi-stage races such as the Tour de France. Team Rubicon will be competing in RAAM for the first time and will ride as an 8-man bracket. Since Team Rubicon will be riding 24 hours a day in rotating shifts, we plan to complete the race in less than 9 days!

Race Info

The 2011 race takes place in June and starts at the Oceanside Pier in Oceanside, California (halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego) and finishes at The City Dock in Annapolis, Maryland. With an 8-Person team, each person averages three hours a day on the bike. Teams typically cross the country in 6 to 9 days, averaging 350 to over 500 miles per day. Team Rubicon RAAM aims to finish the “World’s Toughest Bike Race” around day 7. More info on RAAM can be found at the official RAAM website.

Charities

More than half of the racers use RAAM as a platform and event to raise funds for various charities. In each of the past five years, racers raised more than $1,000,000. After expenses, Team Rubicon RAAM will equally distribute donations to these three charities: Team Rubicon Team Rubicon bridges the critical time gap between large natural disasters and conventional aid response.
