Br. Jim Boynton, SJ – Mission in Haiti from Midwest Jesuits on Vimeo.

Watch the MUST SEE video by clicking Mission to Haiti

In November 2009 Br. Jim Boynton, SJ, was missioned to northern Haiti to serve refugees through the Jesuit Foi et Joie school system. On January 12, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake devastated the capital city of Port-au-Prince 80 miles away. The next day, the Jesuit superior in the area sent Br. Jim an email saying, “I know that you have led medical brigades in the past . . . I want you to bring doctors immediately.”

Filled with fear and faith, Br. Jim connected with a group of Jesuit-educated former soldiers and health care professionals called Team Rubicon and headed into the heart of the crisis to serve the greatest needs. In this brief video, Br. Jim shares his story and his mission to help rebuild Haiti through education and service. (more…)

Team Rubicon Receives $20,000 Gift

Team Rubicon has secured its first Individual Sponsor, who recently wrote a check to Team Rubicon for a sum of $20,000.  The individual, who desires to remain unnamed, met with Team Rubicon's President, Jake Wood, in a meeting in Downtown Los Angeles earlier this month.  In the meeting Wood discussed TR's upcoming goals and initiatives, as well as financial need, with the sponsor, who is a Senior Managing Parter at a private equity firm based in LA.

In a follow up email, the sponsor

"I loved the idea of giving money to people and then being able to see it in action. Many times I write a check but am uncertain of how it is used.  …The dedication and commitment that Team Rubicon displays is really exceptional. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of it if only by helping with funding."

Team Rubicon is currently seeking Individual Sponsors in order to fund gear and supply purchases, corporate development and an administrative budget.  Individual Sponsors are being asked for gifts of $20,000+ and commitments for ongoing annual support.  Individual Sponsors' donations are unrestricted funds, unlike funding from contributions on our website, which are restricted to disaster relief and medical missions only.

The Team Rubicon Under Armour shirts have been shipped to the regional coordinators.  They have the Team Rubicon label on the front with Medic in seven languages on the back.  Thank you Under Armour for the support.

TR West Coast Shoots VH1 Special and Commercial

TR President Jake Wood, West Coast Coordinator Zach Smith and volunteers Sam Chapetta, Drew Pryor, Kaj Larsen and Brittany Smith descended on MILK Studios in Hollywood on Wednesday to shoot a special for VH1′s “Do Good SoCal” Awards.  Team Rubicon was the first runner-up in the Do Good Awards held this year by VH1 and was selected to be featured in a professionally made special that will be made available “On Demand” to Southern California residents through Time Warner Cable’s “Entertainment On Demand” package.  Jake also shot a quick excerpt that will be featured in an on-air commercial advertising the “Do Good” Award, which will be airing on VH1 over the next two months. Additionally, two Team Rubicon members will represent the organization at this year’s award ceremony, which will be held July 19th in Los Angeles.

The producers of the piece were an amazing crew to work with and really made the TR volunteers feel at ease in front of the camera.  The focus of the interviews and talks was TR’s inception and history, as well as its appeal to new volunteers who have yet to deploy with TR such as Sam, Drew, Kaj and Brittany.  The entire afternoon was an incredible opportunity for TR’s West Coast team to get together and learn more about each other while continuing to spread the good word about what TR is doing to help people around the world.
As new volunteer Drew Pryor put it, “I’m just ready to go.  I have my bag packed, my wife is behind me, and my kids understand.  They know that I have the ability to help people around the world who don’t have hope, and they support that, even though they’re sad to see me go.”
Former Navy SEAL officer, The Mission Continues co-founder, and Current TV reporter Kaj Larsen added, “I heard about what Team Rubicon was doing and knew I had to get involved.  Being from the military and knowing that this was an organization built around military principles and concepts, I knew that it was the type of outfit I could fit right into and make a huge difference.  I’m excited to work alongside Zach, Sam and everyone else.”
Be sure to check out Team Rubicon “On Demand” when it airs in July!

TR’s Glenn Pinson Receives BHFD Award

Glenn Pinson, a 21 year veteran of the Beverly Hills Fire Department, was awarded Tuesday night with the BHFD’s Harvey Adair Memorial Meritorious Service Award, which is given in recognition of service above and beyond the duties of the fire department.  Glenn deployed with Team Rubicon’s Bravo Element to Port au Prince and operated in Haiti for nearly two weeks.  Upon accepting the award Glenn said, “I was humbled to be able to directly help individuals who were desperate for human compassion.”
Following the presentation of Glenn’s Award, TR President Jake Wood took the podium to present the Beverly Hills Fire Department with a plaque as a token of appreciation for the department’s continued support both during Haiti and Chile.  BHFD provided not only Glenn’s time and expertise, but thousands of dollars of supplies as well.  On Glenn Pinson, Jake commented, “Complete stud, bottom line.”
