Beer, food, Team Rubicon?? We think so! Team Rubicon, looking to harness the momentum it gained winning the Mobilize.org grant competition in Los Angeles, CA, will be hosting a fundraiser at McFadden’s Saloon in Chicago, IL.
Team Rubicon’s regional leaders are locking themselves in a conference room all weekend to discuss the key initiatives TR will be tackling for the rest of 2010. However, before that work begins, they want to invite the HEART of Team Rubicon, YOU, out for a meet and greet! So here are the details:
What: Team Rubicon Fundraiser/ Meet and Greet
When: Friday, May 7th, from 6pm to 9pm (the unofficial end time will be much later!)
Where: McFadden’s Saloon, 1206 N. State Pkwy, Chicago, IL
Who: YOU! Plus TR Regional Leaders, and volunteers from TR Chicago
Why: Because we want you to know who you’re supporting
$30 will get you All You Can Eat and Drink (tap, wine, wells) from 6-9. Team Rubicon will receive $10 for every ticket sold. Additionally, TR is working with local businesses and pro sports teams to donate items for a silent auction.
We sincerely hope that if you live in the Chicago area you will consider joining us on May 7th for a night of fun and fellowship, and don’t forget to invite your friends! Remember, TR gets $10 for every person that attends, and $30 is a cheap Happy Hour bill for downtown Chicago.
Can’t Make The Event??
Don’t worry, you can follow all the happenings live on our blog, at http://teamrubiconusa.org/blog. You can also help the fundraising effort by donating! Donate Today
Dr Eduardo Dolhun is back in Port-au-Prince on an oral rehydration therapy mission. His company, Drip Drop Solutions, promotes simple treatments for dehydration. Dolhun found time to meet up with Team Rubicon’s Brother Jim Boynton and carpenter Ray Arana, who is helping build prefabricated schools for the Jesuits.

MTVU ELEVATES THE VOICES OF STUDENT VETERANS IN “VOICES OF VETS” AND “BEYOND THE WELCOME HOME”
New On-Air and Online Content Supporting Student Veterans Premieres April 19th and April 26th
New York, NY, April 19, 2010- mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, continues to support our newest generation of veterans by premiering two new short-form specials giving veterans a platform to make their voices heard by college students around the country. Part of mtvU and The Jed Foundation’s “Half of Us ” campaign to break down stigma surrounding mental illness, “Voices of Vets,” premiering Monday, April 19, 2010, features student veterans from around the country openly sharing their thoughts about the transition from military combat to the classroom. Debuting Monday, April 26, 2010, “Beyond the Welcome Home” takes viewers inside a 3-day summit as Millennial vets work to tackle the biggest challenges facing young veterans when returning home from the battlefield.
With MTV research revealing that 74 percent of young people ages 18-29 personally know someone who has fought in Iraq or Afghanistan, this new programming focuses on a topic that hits home for many young people. Both features focus on the difficult transition these men and women face as they come home to civilian life:
“Voices of Vets”
Since the Post 9-11 GI bill was passed in 2008, more veterans than ever are furthering their education and enrolling in college. From Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to feelings of isolation, the transition from the battlefield to the classroom can be very difficult. Developed as part of the “Half of Us” campaign, which takes its name from research showing that nearly half of all college students say they have been so depressed they couldn’t function at some point, “Voices of Vets” seeks to shatter stereotypes and create a mutual understanding between veterans and civilians by giving viewers a look inside life as a Millennial veteran returning to life on campus. This short collection of self-shot video footage focuses in on eight young veterans as they share their accomplishments, struggles and experiences with the audience.

The handbook is primarily aimed at managers and staff of humanitarian agencies, both at headquarters (HQ) and in the field. It speaks directly to those on front line of aid delivery as well as to senior managers who determine organisational culture and values. The handbook is designed to help anyone working in the humanitarian sector identify and prevent the corruption risks faced by their particular organisation or department, or within a specific programme or role. It does not try to set out industry-wide standards for aid agencies in emergencies. Rather, it describes ‘what to do’ to minimise corruption risks, while numerous reference documents attached offer technical details on ‘how to do it’.
